General Information
Language, Culture & Religious Affiliation:
English and German are the predominant languages spoken within the facility, however many of our staff and residents have multicultural backgrounds which help to make prospective residents feel welcome.
Weekly church services are offered in house. Dates and times of services are listed on the Recreation calendar.
Care Levels:
The German Canadian Care Home is a 137 bed complex
care facility, including a 60 bed special care unit.
Care Services:
The German Canadian Care Home provides care services to residents requiring complex care and special care. Care services include 24-hour professional nursing care, recreation and music therapy programs, rehabilitation services, food, housekeeping and laundry services.

Type of Accommodation:
74 beds in single rooms with private washrooms. 70 beds in double rooms with a shared washroom. New residents are generally admitted to a double room, and if requested, their name will be placed on a waiting list for a single room.

Food Service:
There is one dining room for residents requiring Complex Care, and a dining room on each of the two Special Care Units. Dining room service is provided and meals are planned by our Dietitian for nutritional content, individual need, and resident preferences. Drinks and snacks are served between meals.
Smoking Regulations:
Residents are permitted to smoke in the designated smoking area outside the East side dining room. Staff and visitors cannot smoke on the premises.
Health Services:
Residents may retain their own physician provided the physician agrees to abide by our Medical Staff Guidelines.
Rehabilitaion Services:
We offer in house occupational therapy and
physiotherapy services.
Cost:
All residents pay a monthly fee also called user fee.
The rate is set by the provincial government and
depends on the resident’s income. Residents are asked to agree to a pre-approved payment plan.
Recreation Programs:
A wide variety of recreation programs are available to residents. Activity calendars are posted monthly on bulletin boards and copies are available from the front desk. Programs are provided Monday through Saturday and are planned according to the residents' preferences and interests.
Furnishings:
Basic furniture is provided and residents are encouraged to bring in personal items to make their room as homelike as possible. Items can include a dresser, comfortable chair, curtains, pictures and other personal items.
Visiting:
Visiting hours are unrestricted provided the visits do not cause disruption to other residents. Pets are welcome to visit provided they are healthy and have had the necessary vaccinations.
Visitor Parking:
Parking on the property is limited. There is free parking on the street.
Community Amenities:
A bus stop is close by and shops and restaurants are within a five minute ride.
Special Needs:
Most special needs can be accommodated.
Safety and Security:
Two elevators, smoke detectors in all rooms, locked doors in the Special Care areas, and magnetically locked doors throughout the facility which operate between 8:00 pm and 7:00 am. Firedrills are held monthly on each shift.
Alcohol:
Alcoholic beverages may be consumed (with a doctor’s permission) under staff supervision. Residents who wish to keep alcohol in the Home must have the permission of the Director of Resident Care. A variety of drinks are available for purchase at pub nights and some special events arranged by the Recreation Department.
