GCCH Update – December 26, 2020

Merry Christmas to all! We trust that the holidays, while spent in smaller company, were special in their own way. We are incredibly grateful that the great gift of the vaccine arrived at the Care Home for residents and staff before Christmas. Our team continues to bring their unwavering support for our residents and each other. A huge THANKS! And we continue to receive excellent support from Vancouver Coastal Health in all aspects of managing the outbreak.

Thank you for your continued support, thoughtful gestures and kind words!

COVID 19 Update – December 11, 2020

Dear Society Members, Families, and Friends of German Canadian Care Home

Sadly, a COVID-19 outbreak was declared on November 26, 2020 at German Canadian Care Home (GCCH). With strong support from Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), our leadership team and staff are working tireless to care for residents who have tested positive while remaining vigilant in keeping all residents safe from the virus. The majority of positive cases have been in Berlin, Frankfurt and Hamburg House.  Our deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones especially at this time of year.

In accordance with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), a comprehensive response plan is being actioned with additional infection control protocols and practices including changes such as newly constructed change rooms and staff rooms to eliminate cross contamination. We are grateful to VCH for the additional health care professionals that have joined our team to assist with staff shortages while they recover from the virus.

The Society and GCCH continues to do everything we can to keep our residents and staff safe as we work to prevent the spread of the virus. Thank you to the GCCH team for all their efforts.

Be safe. Be calm. Be kind.
