Update: May 28, 2025
Since 1965, the German-Canadian Benevolent Society of BC has been operating in Vancouver, and it is with great excitement and pride that we announce the redevelopment of a new, state-of-the-art care home on our current site.
The new care home will accommodate 178 residents in individual rooms, 46 more than our current capacity, and will look and feel like a residential space while being equipped for the delivery of complex care.
The new care home will include 15 households, each will be home to 12 residents. Each resident will have a private space, a single room with a private ensuite including a shower. The household has a kitchen, dining and lounge spaces and laundry for personal laundry thus allowing for maximum flexibility for daily life to unfold.
The three households on each level are connected by a neighborhood space offering comfortable seating for residents and families to socialize and relax.
In addition to these living spaces the care home features a village space consisting of a large community hall, library, spa, treatment room, rehabilitation room, art room and conservatory. With rehabilitation services being a focus of our Comfortzeit® care model, a well-equipped rehabilitation room will offer therapies that support independence and well-being.
Prior to the start of construction in early 2026, we are working closely with residents and their families as well as staff to ensure temporary relocation options reflect individual needs and preferences.
We want to thank you for your ongoing support as we continue our legacy and live our vision – to deliver a high level of care and continue to nurture a vibrant community connected to our roots.
The German-Canadian Care Home is funded by Vancouver Coastal Health. This project would not have been possible without the support of our community, our partners, the Ministry of Health and Vancouver Coastal Health – thank you again.
We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful new space in 2029.
